Instructions on HOW to use this blog for your work

You are here because you have a task to do: Writing historical fiction BASED on an actual historical event that happened during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore.

You have been directed here if you are exploring the options of:

a) Comic Strip _ link http://alphistoricalfiction.blogspot.sg/2016/03/cartoons-for-beginners.html

b) Artifact with an attached story _link http://alphistoricalfiction.blogspot.sg/2016/03/an-artifact-and-story.html

c) Creating a 3D book _link http://alphistoricalfiction.blogspot.sg/2016/03/pop-up-book3d-book.html

d) Creating a Picture Book _ link http://alphistoricalfiction.blogspot.sg/2016/03/a-picture-book.html

In these posts (which resides in THIS blog itself) will be examples of how you can do this. If unclear, ask your resource teachers - your EL/History/IPW teachers assigned to your class.

NOTE: If you are just writing a story, there is nothing for you in these posts.

An Artifact and story

This post is about creating an artifact that you want to focus on for your story. Your story must revolve around this artifact. You need to use several cards on which to write your story and then use a fastener to fasten your cards to your artifact. This will allow you to make a swivel story which is also an interesting way to tell your fiction. It does not take as much time as the 3D pop-up book and can be completed in only 2 weeks. This was done by Mifzal from Sec 2A2 2012.
The fasteners can be bought from the school bookshop

A Picture Book

This is a simple picture book also done by students in 2012.

This book is based on the autobiography of Linda Sue Park When My Name Was Keoko. This book was based on the japanese occupation of Korea in 1940.

The video advises you on a very simple way to do a pop up book which is one of the more interesting ways of doing your project. In the following posts you will see an actual pop up book done by Literature students from 2012. It is possible to create this in 4 weeks but you would have to do some work after class as well if you want to create a work of art. I have updated the information for YOUR work.

This is just an example of HOW you can use the secret windows.

Other pop up examples

The students had pasted their story on the book itself. This is useful so you can show your story as well as tell your story all at once at the library.

Based on Linda Sue Park's autobiography When My Name Was Keiko about the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1940.

CARTOON STRIP

This video shows only one posture, which is important in cartooning. However you can have several postures to demonstrate different attitudes that you want your characters to display. Chrstopher Hart has done several videos to teach you how to draw.

In a strip, you need to have several scenes to explain or SHOW your story. The following are just two examples. You can see more cartoon strips from The Straits Times Sunday supplement as well.

From the Malaysian cartoonist LAT, about a MALAY wedding in a kampong or Malay Village
